To cool data centres adequately without water condensation, and to provide dry air flow, Xerqon invokes the AirSlake. It is a dry air generator. Its output can be also positioned to assist the water cooled portions of data centres.


The AirSlake operates by removing water through a series of narrow and vertical, spiralling, pipes or tubules. The tubules are constructed from carbon-rich carbide. The material behaves as a heating element when conducting electrical power. The air flow for each heating tubule will be from the base to the full height, in series. That section of the system will be encased in an air cavity.


The tubules will be inner-lined with a more resistive metal or carbide material. The outer surface will be electrically insulated with the same material as the inner lining. The middle carbide layer will be a short circuit to the other metallic layers.


For electrical safety, the entire unit will be housed in an insulated, fan-cooled casing with enough air gap to fulfil the necessary degree of refrigeration, to condense water from the piped air in the tubules. The entire unit’s outer casing will be electrically insulated with high temperature resistance polymer.


Following the heating tubules will be a series of condenser tubules. The outer insulating metal layer will be fabricated with pin fins for maximum heat transfer away from the piping, into the fan-cooled air cavity surrounding it. Inlet and outlet pipes will allow water in and out of the cooling cavity. Water cooling of that cavity is the required physical schema to deliver rapid heat sink capability.


The second series of tubules will be tapped at the base of each to a down pipe which will connect to a water runoff pipe. The runoff pipe will swiftly carry water away from the device permanently.


The air will become progressively drier as it flows through the second set of tubules until dew point cannot be achieved in any refrigeration of the air volume past that point of processing. Forcing the dry air through narrow apertures under high pressure will refrigerate it significantly. It can then be supplied as air coolant.
