In simple terms, the format for direct voltage is constant flow in one direction of electromagnetic flux along a conducting circuit. Perpendicular in constant rotation or spin is the direct current. The wave output of the current would be sine squared. The voltage is perpendicular, along the axis of the circuit, so it must also be sine squared in form.
Voltage is electric revolution. Current is magnetic spin or rotation.
Alternating power sees the voltage or electrical flux in simple oscillation, back and forth along the conductive circuit. The quantum spin oscillates in simple and perpendicular harmonic rotation, clockwise and anticlockwise about the axial core of the circuit conductor. That would generate an electrical sine wave along the axis of the electric circuit. The same would be observed in the axially perpendicular, current.
Current is orthodoxly magnetic or of the time dimension, and voltage is necessarily electric.
